Is a leaking boiler an emergency?

If water is leaking from the pressure relief valve (usually a copper pipe going outside), the system pressure is too high. This is less urgent but needs attention.

A leak from the boiler body or heat exchanger is serious. Turn off the boiler and call a technician immediately to prevent further damage.

Place a bucket under the leak and monitor it. If the leak worsens or you can't isolate the source, shut down the system and call for emergency service.
